Spring Cleaning Recycling Tips

It will officially be Spring at the end of the week, and for many, that means Spring Cleaning!

Here are some recycling tips for Spring Cleaning:

  • If you use paper towels, only the cardboard paper rolls are recyclable – the paper towels are not.
  • Old newspaper can be great for cleaning windows, but wet newspaper does not belong in your recycling cart.
  • Gloves and cleaning wipes do not go in your household recycling – both belong in the trash can. Cleaning wipes are also not flushable.
  • If you're tossing out furniture, toys or clothing, these should be donated and not recycled.
  • All of the following can be recycled:
    • Paper & Cardboard: Magazines, junk mail, office paper, and flattened shipping boxes.
    • Plastics: Bottles, tubs, and jugs (e.g., laundry detergent jugs, fabric softener bottles, spray cleaner bottles, shampoo/conditioner bottles, soap containers, along with food containers).
    • Metals: Empty aerosol cans (non-pesticide only), and aluminum and steel food/drink cans.
    • Glass: Bottles and jars.

Important Reminders:

  • All of the above items must be empty, clean, and dry to be recyclable.
  • Do not bag recyclables - keep them loose in your cart.
  • Plastic caps, pumps, and spray nozzles should be removed and thrown in the trash – they are NOT recyclable.
